MTV Movie & TV Award Highlights

Wakanda was well represented at the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards, with “Black Panther” winning the most film trophies. “Black Panther” earned four awards, including best movie.

Co-stars Chadwick Boseman and Michael B. Jordan got wins as well. Boseman took home two trophies — for best hero and best movie performance — while Jordan nabbed best villain and made headlines with their acceptance speeches after their wins.

The audience gave a standing ovation as Boseman handed off his best hero award to real life hero James Shaw Jr., who wrestled an assault-style rifle away from a gunman in a Tennessee Waffle House in April. Boseman told shaw “This is going to live at your house,” giving him the show’s golden popcorn award.

The award winning actor said while it was an honor to be recognized for playing a superhero, it was more important to “acknowledge the heroes we have in real life.”

Meanwhile, co-star Michael B. Jordan threw a jab at Roseanne Barr and her racism during his acceptance speech.

“I’m shocked that I won this award for best villain,” Jordan joked at the beginning of his speech. “I thought for sure Roseanne had that in the bag.”

He also poked fun at fans who asked Boseman to say the film’s most popular tagline.

“Chadwick Boseman personally asked me to ask y’all to stop asking him to say ‘Wakanda Forever’ out on the streets,” Jordan joked. “Y’all taking the forever thing a little too seriously.”
